Title: Pakuan Serif A Bridge Through Time: From Vernacular Roots to Modern Identity.
Overview Pakuan is a custom Humanist Serif typeface meticulously crafted to represent the soul of Bogor. Inspired by the Sundanese philosophy, “Dinu kiwari ngancik nu bihari, seja ayeuna sampeureun jaga,” this typeface serves as a visual bridge connecting the city’s majestic past, vibrant present, and progressive future.
Design Philosophy Rooted in the historical significance of Pakuan Pajajaran, the design draws direct inspiration from Bogor’s iconic landmarks and natural elements. The monumental pillars of Lawang Salapan are transformed into sturdy vertical stems, while the elegant cupped serifs pay homage to the ornamental base of the Tugu Kujang and the organic strength of Kenari tree roots.
Technical Excellence Engineered for high-performance city branding, Pakuan features distinctive inktraps—inspired by the organic nature of raindrops—ensuring exceptional legibility in both large-scale displays and small print environments. Its open aperture reflects the “Someah” (friendly and inclusive) character of the local people, lending a humanist warmth to every word.
